Pass Stitches Over Knitted Slip Stitch

I've had a few queries about a pattern that I recently used to knit a flower corsage: Felicity by Susie Johns (as published in Issue 63 of Let's Knit). The second row of each pattern piece requires you to pass stitches over a slipped st.

Felicity, Large Flower, Row #2: k2, *k1, sl this st back on to LH needle, pass next 10 sts, one-by-one, over this st, yfwd, k3; rep from * to end. 26 sts

You commence the second row with 80 sts, which you will be working as one group of 2 and 6 groups of 13 i.e. 2+(6x13)=80 sts.

sl st back to LH needle
Sl st back to LH needle
Pass one st over another st
Lift 2nd st over 1st st on LH needle
After you knit the first 2 sts (k2), you start the first of your 6 groups of 13 sts (k1, sl st and pass 10 sts, yfwd, k3). Knit the first of these sts (k1) and then transfer it from the right-hand needle back on to the left-hand needle. So you have 2 sts on the RH needle and 78 sts on the LH needle.

Use your RH needle to the lift the 2nd st on the the LH needle over the 1st st on the LH needle. That passes the first of the 10 sts required by the pattern.

St that has been passed over another st
One st passed over another st
Ten sts passed over one st
Ten sts passed over
Continue lifting sts over the 1st st on the LH needle, until you have lifted or passed 10 sts over that st.

You now have 2 sts on the RH needle and 68 sts on the LH needle.

Bring the yarn forward (yfwd or yo) and then knit the next 3 sts from the LH needle. That (k3) includes the st you previously slipped on to the LH needle and passed 10 sts over - so, in effect, it ends up being knitted twice! (Once, before you slip it back to the LH needle, and again after you pass 10 sts over.)

You now have 6 sts on the RH needle and 65 sts on the LH needle. (The sts remaining on the LH needle, after working each "k1, sl st and pass 10 sts, yfwd, k3", will always be divisible by 13 because you are working with groups of 13 sts e.g. 65/13=5.)

Sts on knitting needle
Six sts on RH and 65 sts on LH
Row of knitting on needle
Complete row 2 of pattern
Continue working this way; you should have 26 sts on your RH needle by the time you finish the row.

I hope that helps anyone having difficulties with this novel "sl st and pass over" technique! :)
